Summit Medical Center in Van Buren will introduce their new Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program to the public from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 25, during a Sandwich Seminar.

The event is free to the public and will be held in the rehab room located in Parker Plaza, 2020 Chestnut, Suite 106 in Van Buren. The doctor-supervised program would benefit those with chronic lung diseases, such as emphysema and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), chronic bronchitis, asthma, cystic fibrosis or lung tumors.

The program is also often used before and after lung surgery. The goal of pulmonary rehabilitation is to help patients return to the highest level of function and independence possible, while improving the overall quality of life. These goals are often met by:

• Smoking cessation
• Reducing hospitalizations
• Managing medications
• Exercises to improve lung capacity and fitness
• Patient and family education and counseling
• Assistance with obtaining respiratory equipment and portable oxygen

The seminar and lunch is provided for free, however, registration is required. Please call (479) 709-DOCS or visit http://SummitMedicalCenter.net to register.
