Tolbert: Lt. Governor’s Staff To Resign June 30
Word trickled out late Monday evening that the four person staff of the Lieutenant Governor’s office will resign effective June 30.
I am sure readers will recall that former Lt. Gov. Mark Darr stepped down earlier this month following a finding from the Ethics Commission that he did not properly disclose some campaign and office finances.
The small staff has a payroll of around $250,000 making them one of, if not the smallest, office in the capitol. With the boss resigning, the remaining staff became piñatas for the left to punch as Republican cronyism. Although a few defended them keeping their jobs as the staff of Win Rockefeller did after he passed away in office, others became obsessed with the details of these four office workers. Some even posted pictures of them working at their desks online. Rather creepy if you ask me.
But Senate Pro Temp Michael Lamoureux confirms that on Monday all four staff members agreed to step down on June 30 which corresponds to the end of the state fiscal year.
Imagine that – four state employees whose politics obviously had a role in their obtaining jobs willingly gave up the plumb assignments because it was the right thing to do. Hopefully, some Democrats sitting around pushing paper in similar roles will follow their leads, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.
