Northwest Arkansas Newspapers LLC announced Jan. 21 the hiring of Todd Nelson to become the organization’s next president.

Nelson, a newspaper executive in Illinois, will also be vice president and general manager of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette’s northwest edition.

He replaces Jeff Jeffus, who was named president of WEHCO Newspapers in November after five years with NAN.

WEHCO owns the ADG, 24 other newspapers and 13 cable television operations.

NAN was formed in October 2009, the result of a joint venture between WEHCO and Stephens Media, which published the Morning News of Northwest Arkansas.

The two each own a 50 percent interest in NAN and share in the revenue.

Nelson previously worked for Lee Enterprises, a publicly traded media company based in Davenport, Iowa.
