Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville announced Thursday the acquisition of Hanging Heart (Gold/Magenta), a sculpture from internationally recognized artist Jeff Koons.

The bright gold heart, which is a little more than nine feet wide, was installed Tuesday.

The high chromium mirror-polished stainless steel heart sculpture is one of five unique versions created by Koons, each with a different transparent color coating.

The sculpture now displayed at Crystal Bridges — which weighs more than 3,000 pounds — was the only one of the five retained by Koons, who sold the work directly to the museum in 2013 for an undisclosed price.

However, Sotheby’s auctioned off one of the Hanging Heart (Gold/Magenta) sculptures in November 2007 for $29 million.

“Koons has been a monumental figure in art of the last 25 years,” Crystal Bridges president Don Bacigalupi said in a news release. “Many think of him as the heir to the Warhol legacy, advancing the tradition of Pop Art in taking everyday imagery into a much different realm. We’re pleased to be able to share this sculpture with our guests.”
