Wal-Mart To Offer Prescriptions To Insurance Marketplace Participants At No Cost
Wal-Mart announced it will provide a month’s supply of certain prescriptions at no cost to enrollees in the new federal health care plans who have not received identification numbers.
The rollout for signing up for plans offered under the Affordable Care Act has been marred by glitches and delays that have hampered enrollment. Wal-Mart’s prescription offer is aimed at helping those who signed up but have not received full details of their plans from insurance companies waiting on data from sign-up sites.
The move follows a similar offer made earlier this week by drug store giant Walgreen’s.
“Customers who have signed up for the public health exchanges should be able to access their benefits immediately. That’s why, starting tomorrow through the end of January, we will fill up to a 30-day supply of prescriptions with no upfront cost to customers who have enrolled but have not yet received their plan identification information from their insurance providers,” said John Agwunobi, Walmart’s Senior Vice President and President for Health & Wellness.
“Our pharmacists will also provide assistance in verifying enrollment and will be available to help answer questions about the new insurance plans,” he added.
