Tommy May Expected at Fayetteville Fundraiser This Weekend
Tommy May, recently retired CEO of Simmons First National Bank of Pine Bluff, is expected to attend a fundraising banquet Saturday in Fayetteville, according to a news release from the University of Arkansas.
Proceeds from the event at the Fayetteville Town Center will go to the J. Thomas May Center for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Research at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.
May was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) in 2005. In 2008, friends and business associates raised more than $1 million to support the ALS Research Center at UAMS, and rename it in May’s honor.
May, 67, will present the Community Excellence award to Dr. Stacy Rudnicki, one of the premiere researchers at the May Center, during Saturday’s event.
Members of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity at the UA have organized the banquet, which begins at 7 p.m.
