Simmons-MNB Consolidates From 21 to 10 Branches in NWA
The consolidation of Simmons First National Bank and Metropolitan National Bank will take effect for consumers on March 22, when old locations will be officially closed and new locations will be open.
Simmons confirmed that in Northwest Arkansas, 11 of the 21 total branches will be closed and folded into the 10 remaining Simmons and MNB locations.
Statewide, 27 branches are set to close, according to applications Simmons filed with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.
“We are convinced that the resulting branch footprint will allow us to provide quality service to our customers while allowing us to provide additional services, better branch staffing and possibly longer operating hours,” said David Garner, executive VP, controller and CAO at Simmons First National Corp. of Pine Bluff. “While some of our customers may be a little inconvenienced at first, we believe they’ll soon be happy with the enhanced services the realignment will bring.”
Simmons completed the $56-million acquisition of MNB in November. The consolidation of the two banks includes a reduction in personnel, and as previously reported by the Northwest Arkansas Business Journal, most of the severance-backed layoffs will begin when the consolidation takes effect.
