Forty Under 40: Brent Carroll

Brent Carroll believes staffing agency work is not for everyone. It’s difficult. It’s stressful. You either love it or you hate it.

And he happens to love it. Carroll takes pleasure in the opportunity to interact with new people on a regular basis, in “the thrill of the hunt” of matching businesses to employees, and in the fact that each shift is different.

But staffing agency work requires the ability to react quickly and show enormous flexibility — or, as Carroll calls it, “self-taught ADD.”

He is pulled in different directions throughout the day, but still aims to make each client feel like the only one the firm is working with.

Carroll says this is one thing a good staffing director does. Another is telling the truth.

“It’s better for me to tell someone I can’t do something upfront rather than waiting until six months from now,” he said.

This forthright approach has worked well for Carroll. He is proud of the reputation and relationships he has built in his 15-year staffing career.

His hard work was affirmed in 2012 when Texas-based Select Staff chose him to open its regional branch.

Although work keeps him busy, Carroll stays involved with the local human resources association and the
Rogers-Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce.

“They know if they call me for anything, I’ll do it,” he said.
