Forty Under 40: Ben de Miranda
Ben de Miranda was raised in the medical profession. Both his father and grandfather are pediatricians, and de Miranda considers both of them mentors.
He entered the field because he views it as a way to take care of others, one of his top priorities.
“It brings me fulfillment when I’m able to do something helpful for clients and give something back,” he said.
De Miranda said he focuses on raising awareness of health issues and preventative medicine rather than treating patients after the fact, and he specifically went into family practice so he could treat every age group.
“It keeps it interesting,” he said.
Along the same vein, he tries to diversify as much as possible. Nursing home work gives some variety to his schedule. This approach helps de Miranda to never stop learning, he said.
Because the medical business is changing rapidly, de Miranda said those who want to be doctors should shadow one to see exactly what they do all day, including the paperwork and dealings with insurance companies, and see if it’s something they can truly enjoy doing for the next 50 years.
In his free time, de Miranda likes doing anything outdoors. Hunting, fishing and golf are some of his favorite pastimes, and he is always game for anything Razorback-related.
