The wrongful death lawsuit involving one of Northwest Arkansas’ top residential realtors is scheduled for an eight-day jury trial starting at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 21, according to a news release issued late Wednesday.

The case will be tried before Benton County Circuit Court Judge John Scott.

Sara Symons, 17, died Sept. 1, 2011, as the result of an automobile accident on Interstate 540 just south of Bentonville. Symons was a senior at Bentonville High School.

In May 2012, Symons’ parents filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the other driver involved — prominent Northwest Arkansas real estate broker Kendall Riggins of Springdale, a senior vice president and executive broker at Fayetteville real estate firm Lindsey & Associates.

According to a police report, Riggins was cited for careless and prohibited driving.

Also named in the lawsuit were Chrysler, the manufacturer of Symons’ 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and Key Safety Systems, the maker of the seat belt.

The civil case will be tried before Benton County Circuit Court Judge John Scott.

Oct. 21, according to the news release, would’ve been Symons’ 20th birthday.
