Golden Living celebrated healthy living with the fifth annual "WALK! with Aegis Therapies."

The week-long event, comprised of activities focused on individual wellness, wrapped up on Friday (Sept. 27), with a special cooking demonstration by Golden Living Head Chef Mickey Sellard.

Presented by Aegis Therapies and the International Council on Active Aging (ICAA), the "WALK!" was held in conjunction with Active Aging Week, which involves thousands of senior patients, their families, staff and community members at more than 700 registered communities across the nation. The goal of the event is to reinforce the importance of being active and healthy at any age.

Each day featured a 15 to 30 minute walking session and various wellness activities. The activities ranged in scope, focusing on employees' intellectual, occupational, emotional, social, and spiritual health.

On Friday, participants at the Fort Smith Golden Living location gathered in the company's dining room for the special presentation by Sellard. Sellard walked through the steps on how to create two healthy treats. She outlined the ingredients for an antioxidant-filled berry banana smoothie and whipped up a spinach and pomegranate salad, including homemade dressing.

Each recipe  is featured in the Aegis Therapies EnerG Cookbook, which was prepared by the company's Director of Hospitality and Dining, Darin Leonardson. The book includes sections on how to prepare healthy breakfast foods, snacks, salads, soups and main courses. The recipes were also made available to employees via the company's internal website.

Following the demonstration, participants were treated to smoothie samples. Several employees were also awarded copies of the EnerG Cookbook to take home.
