Sun Could Shine Again on Rundown Hotel

It might not be the biggest eyesore in Springdale, but Whispers would say it’s a lock for the top 10. The building in question is the Sunrise Inn, the sagging hotel at the corner of U.S. 71B and U.S. 412 East, one of the busiest intersections in Northwest Arkansas.

Sitting on 2.5 acres, the Sunrise Inn needs to be torn down and something new and useful built in its place.

And that just might happen in the near future.

RE/MAX Associates owner Brett Hash, who has the property listed at $1 million, said a “national tenant” has already submitted a letter of intent and that purchase negotiations are underway, all within a few weeks of him having listed the property.

If Hash and the buyers make it to the closing table, that’s good news for Springdale. The Sunrise Inn needs to disappear, sooner rather than later.

Think about it. That intersection, in terms of business, is far from broken. Y Liquors, Eureka Pizza, Walmart Supercenter, Arvest Bank and Walgreens all seem to be doing just fine. Whispers is certain this “national tenant” has done its due diligence and figured out that yes, it can make money there, too. Hence the offer on the foreclosed property owned since last August by First Security Bank.

“It’s a teardown,” Hash said.

Whispers wholeheartedly agrees.
