Former USA Drug Magnate Stephen LaFrance Dies Unexpectedly
Retired USA Drug magnate Stephen LaFrance, Sr. of Pine Bluff passed away in his sleep last night unexpectedly, Talk Business has learned.
The family has yet to comment, but several business colleagues confirmed the news.
LaFrance, 71, had sold his massive USA Drug franchise and warehousing business last July for $438 million to Walgreen’s.
The transaction included 144 stores operating under the USA Drug, Super D Drug, May’s Drug, Med-X and Drug Warehouse stores located in Arkansas, Kansas, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, Oklahoma and Tennessee.
The acquisition also included corporate offices, a distribution center located in Pine Bluff, and a wholesale and private brand business.
The sale paid huge dividends for the family of LaFrance, owners of the drug store chain that started with a single store in Pine Bluff in the early 1970’s.
His success was a feature story in Talk Business earlier this year.
Talk Business will update this story later today.
