Tolbert: Sen. Rapert Not Running For Lt. Governor, Seeking Re-election Instead
Scratch one off the list of potential Republican candidates for Lt. Governor in 2014. State Sen. Jason Rapert of Conway tells me today that he has decided to stay put rather than run for the possible opening.
“Through much prayer and consideration with my family, I have chosen to run for re-election to the Arkansas Senate. I believe that I can best impact policy for the State of Arkansas and positively impact my district in my current Senate seat. I enjoy representing the citizens of my district and I also enjoy working with my colleagues in the Arkansas Senate. With two young children, we also believe this is best for our family at this time,” said Rapert.
It is believed that incumbent Lt. Gov. Mark Darr will likely run for Congress in the Fourth District if Congressman Tom Cotton runs for the U.S. Senate against Sen. Mark Pryor. Lots of dominos to fall there, but if it does happen several Republicans are eying the Lt. Governor’s race, including State Rep. Charlie Collins of Fayetteville.
