Clayton House Belle Grove Historic District Walking Tour

by  () 112 views

Truly step back in time with the Clayton House’s new walking tour through one of Arkansas’ oldest neighborhoods. Fort Smith’s Belle Grove Historic District boasts the largest variety of Victorian architectural styles of any historic district in the state, and is one of the most diverse districts in the nation. This tour provides a booklet featuring the historic homes, and a volunteer guide who shares the stories of the people who built the residences and what they did for a living on Garrison Avenue or the Arkansas River. Learn early Fort Smith history in this enjoyable way through the stories (and some myths) about the bankers, saloon owners, cotton merchants, railroad conductors and more who lived in these irreplaceable historic structures. The tour begins in the Clayton House front yard and covers from up to 12 blocks. Cost: $5. For more information, call the Clayton House at 479-783-3000.
