NanoWatt Secures $150,000 Grant From National Science Foundation
NanoWatt Design Inc., a Fayetteville-based company in the portfolio of VIC Technology Venture Development, has secured a $150,000 grant from the National Science Foundation.
VIC is a private technology venture development firm based at the Arkansas Research & Technology Park in Fayetteville.
The grant will support NanoWatt Design’s new asynchronous circuit design, Sleep Convention Logic. According to a news release, the innovation has the potential to change the way chips used in cell phones, laptops, tablets and even servers are designed.
NanoWatt Design is partnering with a $5 billion defense-aerospace customer that is developing an advanced parallel processor.
The customer, according to the release, will provide circuit information to NanoWatt Design.
NanoWatt Design will then apply its proprietary software SCLCompiler to convert the existing processor design to the new technology. The circuit will then be optimized for low power.
At the end of the project, NanoWatt Design will have side-by-side comparisons showing that the SCL architecture delivers lower power consumption, while meeting requirements for speed.
