Cox supports $25,000 tech center to Fort Smith Boys & Girls Club
Cox Communications and the Boys & Girls Clubs of America have partnered to install a $25,000 technology center at the Jeffrey Boys & Girls Club facility in Fort Smith.
The donation consists of 10 wireless ready desktop computers with flat screen monitors; a laser printer; a wireless router; software that includes Windows 7 profession and expression web.
“We are so pleased to work with the Fort Smith Boys and Girls Clubs to establish this new technology lab for very deserving children,” Kim Rowell, vice president and market leader for Cox Arkansas, said in a statement. “Having access to computers and reliable Internet services is no longer something that’s simply nice to have — to excel in today’s fast-paced education climate, students must have both digital literacy and consistent access to technology tools. This center is helping to make this possible for local kids who really need it.”
Cox supplies free high speed internet service and TV cable at all four Fort Smith Boys & Girls Club locations. The addition of this gift from Cox Communications will allow the Club to offer programs that include: Digital Arts Suite, Animation, Net Smartz, Skill Tech, Core Tech, YouthNet, and Stay Safe online.
“Cox Communications has been extremely generous to the youth of our community” said Jerry Glidewell, Boys & Girls Club executive director.
Technology programs have been a focus of Boys & Girls Clubs of America during the past 15 years. Computers and the Internet have dramatically changed the way people live, work and play. Both have made access to information faster, easier and less expensive.
“Club members at the Jeffrey unit are extremely excited about the new technology
equipment provided by Cox,” said Jason Morland, Director of Operations for the Boys & Girls Club. “We are wanting to get more involved in digital arts and the creation of game animation. This gift will help up to provide new program opportunities.”
The Fort Smith Boys & Girls Club has been serving youth in our area for the past 85 years. Locally, there are four units (Evans, Jeffrey, Stephens, Goldtrap) located in the City, serving more than 3,400 registered members, boys and girls ages 6-18. The Boys & Girls Club is a partner of the Fort Smith Area United Way.
