“Clayton Camp” to feature Old-Time Games for Youngsters June 14-15

Children age six to 12 are invited to experience Victorian-era fun at the Clayton House June 14-15 as they play a series of old-fashioned indoor and outdoor games.
“Clayton Camp” will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with Friday featuring parlor games and Saturday featuring outdoor games. Teams will be formed and prizes awarded. For refreshment, a Victorian tea will be provided each day.
During the Victorian era (1837-1901), popular parlor games included word games such as “Twenty Questions” and “I have a Basket,” which exercised one’s vocabulary in a fun way. Outdoor games included a version of today’s Hide and Seek, with objects being hid instead of people, and “Battledore and Shuttlecock,” a netless version of badminton.
Cost of the two-day program is $20; one day is $12. To reserve a spot, call the Clayton House at 783-3000 or visit www.claytonhouse.org. The Clayton House, a historic house museum, is located at 514 North 6th Street in Fort Smith’s Belle Grove Historic District.
