Bill And Hillary Clinton Return For Little Rock Airport Naming
Bill and Hillary Clinton returned to Little Rock on Friday for the dedication of the city’s airport to be renamed after them.
As the former Governor and First Lady of Arkansas as well as U.S. President and First Lady, the Clintons were honored with the renaming of the airport last year by the Little Rock Municipal Airport Commission.
In renaming the Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport, commissioners acknowledged the additional contributions of the couple to Arkansas, which includes Hillary Clinton’s role as a former U.S. Senator and Secretary of State.
“Thanks to this airport we’ve always been able to find our way back home,” said Bill Clinton at a Friday dedication ceremony.
“This is a profoundly deep honor for me to be here for the naming of this airport that has played such a role in my own life,” said Hillary Clinton.
The airport has been undergoing Phase 1 of a $67 million renovation as part of its Vision 2020 Plan.
The improvements include a new in-line baggage system, expansion of the security checkpoint, relocation of the airport communication center and expansion/renovation of the ticketing lobby.
Other improvements in Phase 1 include:
- Passenger screening checkpoint improvements
- Relocation of valet parking
- Concourse restroom renovations
- Administration renovations
- Multi-user Flight Information Display System
- Energy-saving upgrades
- Airport entrance sign
