Legislative Data Offer Clues On Keywords, Activity
An analysis of legislative data by LobbyUp.com reveals a number of interesting statistics related to bills filed in the 89th General Assembly.
There have been 1,300 House bills and 1,192 Senate bills filed for a total of 2,492 bills this session. An additional 139 resolutions were filed between the House and the Senate.
29.38% of all House bills were filed Monday – the last day for bill filing – while 23.24% of all Senate bills were filed on the final day.
Excluding appropriation bills, 37% of all House bills were filed Monday and 36% of all Senate bills were filed Monday.
On the final day of filing, Republicans filed 418 bills, while Democrats filed 246 pieces of legislation.
As of March 11, the top keywords for those myriad bills filed were:
1. Tax/Taxes
2. Regulation/Regulate
3. Public School
4. Technology
5. Manufacture/Manufacturing
6. Medicaid
The Top 5 sponsors of bills on the last day of filing were:
1. Rep. Jim Dotson (R) – 39 bills
2. Sen. Bryan King (R) – 27 bills
3. Rep. Kim Hammer (R) – 27 bills
4. Rep. Nate Bell (R) – 25 bills
5. Sen. David J. Sanders (R) – 21 bills
The Top 5 busiest days for bill filings in recent sessions include:
1. March 11, 2013 – 695 bills
2. March 7, 2011 – 530 bills
3. March 9, 2009 – 422 bills
4. March 2, 2009 – 251 bills
5. February 28, 2011 – 231 bills
