$4 Million Metal Processing Facility Coming to Chaffee Crossing
Phoenix Metals Co. of Atlanta announced on Thursday plans to build a $4 million metal processing center and warehouse on 11 acres at Chaffee Crossing in Fort Smith.
The company is intends to invest $8 million in new equipment for the facilities, according to a news release. The announcement means the creation of as many as 40 new jobs over the next three years with average wages of $15 per hour.
“Phoenix Metals has been looking to add a service center somewhere along the I-40 corridor from Russellville to Tulsa to take care of our customers in that region,” PMC branch manager Don Gray said in the release. “The Chaffee Crossing development and the Fort Smith Regional Chamber of Commerce sold us on the Fort Smith area.”
Fort Smith Chamber president Tim Allen called PMC’s decision “a testament of our commitment to recruit high-tech businesses to this region.”
“A Fortune 500 company of this quality locating its operation in Fort Smith is a win for both company and community,” Allen said in the release.
Phoenix is a subsidiary of Los Angeles-based Reliance Steel & Aluminum Co., and has operations in 12 states distributing aluminum, stainless steel, copper and carbon steel products.
