Could Rick Crawford Face A GOP Challenger?
On Monday, we broke the news that First District Congressman Rick Crawford may have a Democratic challenger in State Representative Marshall Wright. Today comes news from Politico that Crawford may also come under fire from his right-flank.
Politico reports the anti-tax group Club for Growth is targeting Crawford for defeat in the Republic primary. The group unveiled a new website naming Crawford, and eight other GOP Congressmen, urging people to find primary challengers for these incumbents who’s tax record doesn’t meet with Club’s approval.
In his 2010 race, Crawford signed a pledge promising to never support a tax increase in any form or fashion. Two years later, Crawford broke his word when he proposed a tax increase on millionaires. That broken promise ticked off a lot of right-wingers.
From today’s Politico:
“The Club for Growth, the anti-tax group that has spent heavily in Republican primaries in the past few cycles, is launching a new website that names nine GOP Congress members in safe seats and urges people to help find challengers to them.
Tethered to the group’s congressional scorecard that was released this week, the site, www.PrimaryMyCongressman.com, goes live later Wednesday. It names people in districts where Mitt Romney notched more than 60 percent in the 2012 presidential race, but got a lifetime rating of below 70 percent from the Club.”
Could 2014 be the year where Crawford takes barrages from both he right and the left? Only time will tell.
