Lundstrum First 2014 Arkansas House Candidate
The newly minted Republican majorities in the Arkansas House and Senate have not yet been sworn in and Republicans are already looking ahead to 2014. Republican Robin Lundstrum even has a website up already in preparation for running for House District 87, which includes Siloam Springs.
Lundstrum tells me today that she is “running hard and early” and is ready for the race. She briefly considered challenging Rep. Jonathan Barnett in the Republican primary in 2012, but decided against it. Barnett in term-limited this time. The district is such a reliable Republican seat that one time it was one of the only Republican held seats in the state. My how times have changed.
Rep. Ann Clemmer is also looking ahead towards 2014 with plans to leap from the House to the Senate. Rep. Clemmer is term-limited and the Senate district she would run in happens to be the Saline County one where I live in. Currently, Sen. Jeremy Hutchinson represents this district. It is certainly not clear if he plans to run for re-election, but at one time he was thinking about running for Attorney General (insert Hutchinson/McDaniel lady friend joke here).
Rep. Clemmer mentioned to me the other day off the record she was thinking of running, but I see Max Brantley at the Arkansas Times has sniffed that one out so I guess it is public now.
