Students at the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith’s business college scored in the top 20th percentile in a recent assessment of more than 80,000 graduating seniors.

The Educational Testing Service administered its “major field test” to almost 600 universities in several countries, according to a news release, and Steve Williams, dean of UAFS’ business school, was encouraged by his students’ performance.

“The test reports both a total score, which is an indicator of student performance in the general area of business, and subscores, which represent large subdomains of the different business disciplines and are based on enough test questions to be statistically reliable for both groups and individual students,” Williams said in the release.

“While our UAFS business students did well in all nine subscales, we scored particularly high in the areas of accounting, management, legal and social environment, and international issues.”

Williams also said recent faculty hires and instructional modifications deserve some credit for the test scores. ETS was founded in 1947, and its tests and comparative data are designed to allow participating schools a way to measure their effectiveness against that of other colleges and universities.

Williams also said four UAFS students were inducted into the College of Business Top Ten Club, an honorary award recognizing students who score in the top 10 percent nationally. They are Kyle Arnold of Rudy (business administration), Michelle Doville and Christina Freeman of Fort Smith (accounting) and Hailey Hibbard of Cedarville (business administration).
