Rediscovering the Shared Cultural Heritage of Armenians and Turks through Music: A Lecture by Dr. Ayşe Taşpınar
Ayşe Taşpınar, internationally acclaimed pianist and musicologist, will speak on ‘Rediscovering the Shared Cultural Heritage of Armenians and Turks through Music’ on Tuesday, November 13. Her academic work explores the syntheses of local religious and folk melodies into classical Western music in the Ottoman Empire in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Her talk, co-sponsored by the Department of Music and the King Fahd Center for Middle East Studies, is in conjunction with her piano recital on November 11 at 8:00 pm in Giffels Auditorium, and is free and open to the public.
