J.B. Hunt 3Q Profit Up 14 Percent
J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. of Lowell on Thursday reported a 14 percent increase in third quarter profit as growth in its intermodal business outpaced gains in the company’s trucking segment.
The company reported third quarter net income of $78.2 million, or 65 cents per share, up from net income of $68.7 million, or 57 cents per share, during the same quarter last year.
Revenue also increased, up 11 percent to almost $1.3 billion.
The company’s intermodal segment reported operating income of $97.9 million, up 25 percent from the same time last year. Revenue was $794 million, up 15 percent.
Meanwhile, the company’s trucking segment reported operating income of $4 million, down 41 percent, and revenue of $117 million, down 8 percent.
Hunt’s dedicated contract services reported revenue of $273 million, up 1 percent, with income of $25.6 million, down 14 percent. Its integrated capacity solutions segment reported revenue of $121 million, up 30 percent, with income of $5.5 million, up 43 percent.
