Allen's Foods in Bella Vista was chosen "Store of the Year" by its specialty and gourmet food supplier, Valu Merchandisers Co.
Valu Merchandisers is a subsidiary of Associated Wholesale Grocers based in Kansas City.
Store Manager, Steve Morrow said this is first time Allen's has received the honor from this long-term supplier of 2,100 grocers in 22 states.
"We were notified of the honor at an awards banquet in Kansas City a few month back and the trophy was delivered today (Oct. 12.)," Morrow said.
About a year ago, Allen's Foods expanded its line of organic and glutten-free foods because of customer demand.
Hundreds of these niche products help smaller grocers compete in a fiercely competitive, yet low margin grocery market.
Morrow said Valu Merchandisers has been supplying Allen's with gourmet cheese and other specialty items since the store opened nearly 13 years ago
