Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is the lead sponsor for this year’s MBA Women International’s Leadership Conference.

The group’s annual conference and career fair will be held Oct. 18-20 in Phoenix.

The support from the world’s largest retailer aligns with its Global Women’s Economic Empowerment Initiative that began in September 2011, a news release from MBAWI stated.

“Leadership training is an important part of skills development for women globally,” Linda Vytlacil, Wal-Mart’s vice president of global customer insights and analytics, said in the release. Wal-Mart’s participation in the conference “is one way in which we are shaping the pipeline for development of emerging women leaders.”

MBAWI is a nonprofit dedicated to the advancement of businesswomen as corporate leaders, executives and entrepreneurs. It serves female MBA students and business professionals, as well as universities and corporate partners.
