The administrators of the planned U.S. Marshals Museum in Fort Smith announced recently that former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani is participating in museum fundraising.

According to a news release, Giuliani voiced his support in a video titled “Your Marshal – Yesterday’s Legends, Tomorrow’s Heroes.” The clip was produced by Jones Film & Video of Little Rock and will be used in capital campaigns at the local, state and national level.

The museum is a $50 million, 20,000-SF project that has been in the works since 2007.

The recession slowed the museum’s funding efforts, but fundraising on the local level has gathered about $10 million so far. City officials expect the museum to be the key in the development of Fort Smith’s riverfront area.

U.S. Marshals “don’t get nearly the credit that they deserve,” Giuliani said. “I just don’t think we could have had this impact on organized crime without the Witness Protection Program and the Marshals Service.”

“We are extremely pleased to have the participation of Mayor Giuliani in this aspect of the project,” said Jim Dunn, president and CEO of the museum, in the release.

“Throughout his career he worked closely with the Marshals Service, including post 9/11. Mayor Giuliani understands the importance of the Marshals Service and the need to recognize their important and historic role in this nation’s history.”
