Herb Rule, Congressional Candidate, Arrested in Fayetteville for DWI
Democratic candidate Herb Rule, already considered a long shot to unseat incumbent Congressman Tim Griffin this fall in the 2nd District, didn’t do himself any favors with an arrest early Friday morning in Fayetteville.
According to the Washington Co. Sheriff’s Office website, Rule, 74, was arrested and booked by the Fayetteville Police Department just after midnight. He was charged with DWI, improper lane change, improper turn signal use and violating a consent order.
According to the arrest report, Rule was pulled over at approximately 10 p.m. at 4007 N. Shiloh Drive when officers noticed Rule’s white Lexus ES 300 drifting between lanes on North College. Once pulled over, officers “smelled the odor of intoxicating beverages” coming from the vehicle.
Rule, a former state legislator and an attorney for the Rose Law Firm in Little Rock from 1964 until resigning earlier this year, was “verbally unwilling to cooperate with instructions” the report states.
After being transported to the Washington Co. Sheriff’s Office, Rule “refused to sign any paperwork and refused to submit to a BAC test” according to the report.
Rule, who lives in Little Rock, has a preliminary hearing scheduled at 10:30 this morning.
