Gov. Beebe (D) declared a state of emergency in Arkansas to assist with the transport of hay during Arkansas' severe drought.

The declaration is intended to help Arkansas ranchers whose feed supplies are running critically low.

The declaration temporarily authorizes issuance of special permits to transport round b

ales of hay on controlled highways, provided the load does not exceed twelve feet (12) in width.

The Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department will maintain jurisdiction in selecting the safest routes for the hauling of hay. This declaration is in effect for 30 days and may be extended depending on future conditions.
