ADEQ Director Teresa Marks Elected President Of States Council
Teresa Marks, director of the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality, was named president of the Environmental Council of States at its meeting this week in Colorado Springs.
The Environmental Council of the States (ECOS) is the national non-profit, non-partisan association of state and territorial environmental agency leaders. ECOS was established in December 1993 at a meeting of approximately 20 states in Phoenix, Arizona and is a 501(c)(6) non-profit organization. The organization’s membership is now made up of the environmental agency leaders in 50 states and territories.
“It’s such an honor to be selected to serve in this role. ECOS recognizes how vital states are in protecting the environment and how critical it is for environmental agency leaders to communicate with each other, as well as their federal counterparts,” Marks said. “Over the last two decades the group has become an important voice for states and has provided a valuable way for states to learn from each other.”
Before being appointed as the Director of ADEQ in 2007, Marks served the state in the Office of the Attorney General.
At the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality, Marks oversees about 400 employees with the charge to protect, enhance and restore the environment of Arkansas.
