Barth Appointed To State Board Of Education

Dr. Jay Barth, professor of political science at Hendrix College, was appointed to the State Board of Education by Gov. Mike Beebe on Thursday (July 5).

Barth, who lives in Little Rock, will replace Dr. Ben Mays. Barth's appointment will expire June 30, 2019.

He earned his undergraduate degree in American Studies in 1987 from Hendrix College and received his M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina in 1989 and 1994 respectively.

Distinguished Professor of Politics and is chairman of the Department of Politics & International Relations at Hendrix. He also works in partnership with Talk Business Research in the news site's polling endeavors. Barth helps construct and analyze survey results.

In 2008, he published a report for Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families and the Arkansas Public Policy Panel titled “Arkansas Education in the Post-Lake View Era: What is Arkansas Doing To Close The Achievement Gap?”
