First Security Bank expects to open its University of Arkansas banking center in the Garland Center in mid-August, the bank said in a June 28 news release.

The bank has signed a lease on the space and construction has begun, the release stated.

First Security will occupy 1,200 SF of the complex at the north entrance to the campus. The building opened in July 2010, and houses area retailers such as the University Bookstore, the campus Walmart, and Lewis & Clark Outfitters.

First Security’s UA banking center has been located in the Student Union since 2003.

John Diamond, associate vice chancellor of university relations, said the move “increases the diversity and convenience of retail and service options available at that site to our students and employees.”
