Fort Smith-based ABF Freight System is cited by Inbound Logistics as a “Green 75 Supply Chain Partner.”

The magazine’s annual list of supply chain partners committed to sustainability appears in a special “Supply Chain Sustainability” issue. ABF appears on the list for the third consecutive year.

“ABF was an early pioneer in adopting many of the fleet efficiency and sustainability measures that are now seen as proven methods for promoting a greener supply chain,” said ABF President and Chief Executive Officer Roy Slagle. “It is gratifying to see our efforts recognized once again by the editors of Inbound Logistics magazine.”

As part of its sustainability efforts, ABF initiated several programs, including: reducing fuel consumption and enhancing operational efficiency through best practices that include a strictly followed equipment maintenance/replacement program and a limited maximum speed limit of 62 mph; engine idle shutdown programming to prevent unattended idling in yard tractors as well as road and city tractors; and installing aerodynamic aids on select pieces of equipment, thus reducing wind resistance.

ABF is a less-than-truckload carrier and is the largest subsidiary of Fort Smith-based Arkansas Best Corp.
