Librarys Teen Area Wins Design Awards
The Fayetteville Public Library’s new teen area, dubbed the Otwell Teen Library, was selected for the American Library Association Library Design Showcase 2012 in three areas: technology enabled; small project, big impact; and youth spaces.
American Libraries magazine, published by the ALA, featured the project in its February issue.
Design features include a new 25-computer technology lab, gaming area, project room and communal areas, as well as Wi-Fi and more shelving for books. The teen area comprises 2,350 SF of the entire library’s 88,000 SF.
Bob Kohler of Kohler Design Office did the remodel for the $286,500 project, with design by Missi Walker Interiors of Fayetteville.
The Otwell Teen Library was funded by a gift from Dr. Harry C. and Lela M. Otwell, as well as donations from Cox Communications, Best Buy, Sam’s Club, Jimmy Blew Custom Cabinets and other area businesses.
