Doctors Research Recognized With Prestigious National Award
A local physician was presented a significant award recently for his research focusing on breakthrough treatment for postmenopausal women with advanced forms of breast cancer.
Dr. J. Thaddeus Beck of Highlands Oncology Group was selected to receive the Martin Award for excellence in clinical research, presented by Massachusetts General Hospital.
The award is to the research department at HOG and Beck for making a contribution to the best research published in 2011.
The research, co-authored by Beck, was published in the New England Journal of Medicine in December.
MGH ranked second in last year’s list of “America’s Best Hospitals” in U.S. News & World Report. The hospital owns the New England Journal of Medicine, published since 1812 and recognized as one of the most prestigious journals in the world.
The award is named for Joseph B. Martin, a former chair of the Department of Neurology at MGH.
