Crowne Making George’s More Majestic

Brian Crowne is “doubling down.”

Crowne, a part owner of Dickson Street’s famed George’s Majestic Lounge for the past eight years, recently took sole ownership of the property. He did so by buying out — under Brian Crowne Holdings LLC — partner Suzy Stephens for $831,000. The two — under George’s Majestic Land LLC — bought the property for $850,000 in 2004.

“It was time to put it under one umbrella, so to speak,” Crowne told Whispers.

In addition to buying George’s outright, Crowne is planning a 50-foot expansion of the main stage and the addition of backstage dressing room, shower and bathroom facilities for artists. The stage also will be elevated to provide better sightlines for patrons, while the roof above the main stage will be raised to about 18 feet.

Perhaps best of all, considering the timing, is Crowne’s plan to air-condition the “garden room,” or main concert space. It should be climate-controlled by June 1, he said.

The rest of the projects should start within the next two or three weeks, with an eye on completion by the end of July. Crowne expects the changes to make George’s a more appealing venue for corporate and charity events in addition to enhancing its primary business.
