The Tibetan Cultural Institute of Arkansas is celebrating the Buddhist holiday of Vesak with a potluck picnic on Saturday, April 28, at Agri Park in Fayetteville.

Vesak celebrates the birth, enlightenment and death of the Buddha. Presentations will be made by the Tibetan monk, Geshe Thupten Dorjee, and Barbara Taylor, senior dharma teacher of Fayetteville's Morning Star Zen Center.

The celebration includes a pot-lunch, lawn games and, for kids, the building of a sand mandala.

Area Buddhists and all who are interested in Buddhist theory and practice are invited to attend — and bring lawn chairs, and food and drinks to share. The event begins at noon with lunch served at 1:30, rain or shine.
