Tech Educator Puts New Twist on Summer Camps
Sarah Daigle Scott believes summer swimming lessons and tennis camps are good things for kids.
In addition, though, she believes children should spend at least part of their summers “exercising their brain.”
With that — and the conviction that technology education is critical to the development of today’s youth — Scott has launched the Tech Adventure Club. Essentially, the club is a six-week series of “tech camps” aimed at educating children ages 7-16 in three core areas: building websites, writing code and graphic design.
Enrollment opened April 9, and several spots were filled within the first 24 hours, Scott said. The camps will be held at Fayetteville Athletic Club, in conjunction with its Kids in Motion camps.
“We recognize that technology is the future, and it’s also fun,” said Scott, a technology educator in various capacities for about the last 10 years.
Classes will last two hours and be divided into age ranges. The cost for children attending the FAC camp is $50 per week, while non-campers can attend for $100 per week. Parents can visit techadventureclub.com for more details.
“Like a lot of parents, I’ve watched my own kids become consumers of all things technology,” Scott said. “Now I want to help kids become creators of technology.”
