Fort Smith Juniors Volleyball sends four teams to national tourney

Four teams from the Fort Smith Juniors volleyball club (FSJ) recently qualified for the 2012 U.S. Volleyball Association National Tournament.

The top FSJ teams from the 13, 14 and 16 year old age divisions each finished in first place at the Delta Region Bid Qualifier Tournament hosted in Memphis, Tenn., on April 7.

Additionally the club’s top 12 year old team earned an invitational bid by placing 2nd in the age division. It was the first time in the club’s 15-year history that four teams qualified in the same year, and it means FSJ will send more teams to the National tournament than any other club in the Delta Region.

This year’s Nationals will be held in Columbus, Ohio, beginning June 28.

The Delta Region is made up of volleyball clubs from all of Arkansas, western Tennessee, and northern Mississippi.

The FSJ 16s team finished first out of 41 regional teams. The 14s team finished first out of 66 regional teams. The 13s team finished first out of 47 regional teams. And the 12s team finished second out of 42 regional teams.
