FORT SMITH — The University of Arkansas-Fort Smith Theater is putting a new twist on an old favorite, William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night's Dream, which opened for full house Thursday (March 15) at Breedlove Auditorium.

Performances continue at 7:30 p.m. March 16-17 and March 28-29. The humorous and widely popular Midsummer is believed is one of Shakespeare’s most-performed stage plays.

It portrays the events surrounding the marriage of the Duke of Athens, Theseus, and the Queen of the Amazons, Hippolyta. The plot carries out the adventures of four young Athenian lovers and a group of nine bumbling actors, who are manipulated by the mischievous fairies who inhabit the forest in which most of the play is set.

The Breedlove audience found great humor in the play, clapping at the appropriate times and providing a standing ovation at the end.
