FORT SMITH — Springfield, Mo.-based rock outfit Speakeasy has been a longtime favorite in Northwest Arkansas and the Fort Smith metro area. Boasting a brand new album, Trainwreck, the rowdy four-piece is appearing Friday (March 30) at Webby D’s in Fort Smith. The show will serve as one of the CD release parties, promoting what is their most mature and successful studio endeavor to date.

Rather than being defined by the constraints of a specific musical genre, Speakeasy is able to effectively span several styles, providing a musical soundtrack that is both exciting and extensive. Their style, which is prominently displayed on Trainwreck, features intricate, meaty guitar riffs and a soulful and a groove oriented approach to organ and keys. Their rolling no holds barred rhythm section supports the overall sound, and is equally as gripping an individual instrumentation. A mix of gritty vocals and delicate harmonies punctuate honest and inspired lyrics, completing the layering of textures and instrumental patterns that create Speakeasy’s compelling signature style.

Impressively, Speakeasy’s new, 10 track record, displays a maturity and evolution where many bands at this stage in their career turn stale. Performing together for over 10 years has allowed these talented individuals to grow collectively into a seasoned band that continues to push the boundaries of traditional rock and roll. Never ones to take themselves too seriously, Speakeasy isn’t afraid to have fun. There is an enthusiasm and joyfulness to their sound that manages to be thoughtful yet effortless.

Wasting no time getting to the rock refrain, Trainwreck, bursts out of the gate from the very beginning, raging into a ride of melodic twists and turns throughout the entire project. Recorded without auto-tune or studio tricks, the album further contributes to Speakeasy’s authenticity and the organic quality of their no-frills musical approach. In addition to their traditional lineup, an impressive roster of guest musicians are featured on the album, most notably, Fred Tackett of Little Feat.

Lead singer and guitarist, Shawn Eckels, said he and the band are excited to present this album to the fans. at Webby D’s, as well as supporting Umphrey’s McGee at George’s Majestic Lounge in Fayetteville on April 17. A crowd favorite Speakeasy is always welcomed by a supportive and often equally boisterous fan base at both venues, fueling the fire for the band’s wild and unrestrained live shows.

This new CD is the most ambitious and accurate portrayal of the band’s talent. Gifted musicians, Speakeasy offers up a significant musical contribution filled with skill and humor in both their live and recorded efforts.
