Joyce Judy Jailed
Note taken: Joyce Judy, the former president of Arkansas Employees Federal Credit Union in Little Rock, has reported to Carswell Federal Medical Center near Fort Worth, Texas.
She was originally scheduled to begin her 26-month sentence in February, but U.S. District Judge Leon Holmes approved a delay until March 12. The extra time was requested by Judy’s defense attorney, Erin Cassinelli, and was not opposed by federal prosecutors, but the motion itself is under seal so the reason for the delay is unknown.
At Judy’s sentencing hearing in December, Cassinelli said her client had had repeated bouts with cancer. That’s why she was sent to the Federal Bureau of Prisons’ medical facility.
Judy pleaded guilty to bank fraud back in August. She stole $500,000 from an AEFCU customer with the promise of moving it into a super-safe, high-yielding CD. Instead, she combined it with another $500,000, mostly borrowed, to invest in the Iowa Speedway, an investment that turned out to be an international scam.`
