Fayetteville Could Get its Own Academy

Academy Sports + Outdoors could soon be opening its second store in Northwest Arkansas — essentially next door to Razorback Cinema in the Steele Creek area of Fayetteville.

The sporting goods retailer currently has a store in Rogers, and has signed a letter of intent with developer Brent Mann of Houston’s Vista Private Equity Group. Mann has a deal to buy the land — about nine acres — under contract.

Ryan Gill of McClelland Consulting Engineers Inc., meanwhile, has submitted a civil plan to the City of Fayetteville. If all of those pieces can be fit together, Academy eventually will rent the building from Mann’s group.
