Cotton First on the Air in Congressional Race
The Republican Primary in the south Arkansas Fourth Congressional District is shaping up to be a quite a race. In short, the match up is between the well-funded Tom Cotton and the former candidate, Beth Anne Rankin. A third candidate – John Cowart is also running, but is not expected to be much of a factor.
At his last report at year-end, Cotton had raised over a half million dollars. He likely has far exceeded that, but reports do not come out again until next month. It looks like he has decided to start spending some of his funds with 10 weeks to go before the primary on May 22.
His first ad is a profile ad with highlights of his service in the military.
“Today, our campaign will start airing television ads around the district. These ads will introduce Tom and share his inspiring story of patriotism and service with voters,” said Campaign Manager Douglas Coutts in an email to supporters.
“Like you, I believe that voters will rally to Tom when they hear how he left his law practice and volunteered for the Army because of the 9/11 attacks. Tom became an Army Ranger and Infantry officer. He fought in Iraq and volunteered for a second combat tour in Afghanistan, where he earned the Bronze Star,” Coutts said.
Cotton’s challenge will be to introduce himself to voters in the Fourth District who already know Rankin for her 2010 campaign. Today’s ad launch marks the beginning of this strategy.
