Three (Maybe, Four) More Democrats To Watch In The Fiscal Session

Talk Business & Politics today unveiled its Top 10 Legislators to Watch during the 2012 fiscal session. With 135 legislators and only ten slots on the list, it means there are legislators that are still worth paying attention to in the next session, but they just barely missed making the list.

With that in mind, here are additional legislators to watch during the upcoming session.

Senator David Johnson (D-Little Rock) – Johnson, an attorney in Little Rock, is often the voice of reason in the State Senate. While not a high profile Senator, Johnson works quietly behind the scenes to get things done.

Rep. Linda Tyler (D-Conway) – Tyler is in a high-profile race against incumbent GOP Sen. Jason Rapert. What moves, if any, will she make in this fiscal session to define herself and her opponent on fiscal matters?

Tie:  Rep. Johnnie Roebuck (D- Arkadelphia) and Rep. Bubba Powers (D-Hope) – Both Roebuck and Powers are responsible for whipping Democratic votes in the House. Will they be able to keep Democrats in line during the upcoming fiscal session?  Moreover, will they make sure all Democratic members vote for Darrin Williams for House Speaker?

Yesterday, the Legislative Democratic Caucus released their list of priorities for the upcoming fiscal session and an overall point that came out during their press conference was to get the job done quickly and go home.  With many legislators facing re-election or seeking to move from one chamber to another, it will be interesting to see if this fiscal session is quiet and quick or explosive and partisan.
