The National Republican Congressional Committee will upgrade Tom Cotton to “Contender” status Tuesday, which is the third stage of their “Young Guns” program.

“We are looking forward to working with Tom Cotton, who has already proven himself by meeting rigorous benchmarks in the ‘Young Guns’ program that will position his campaign for victory,” said NRCC Chairman Pete Sessions (R-TX). “Tom Cotton’s dedication and experience enables him to advocate effectively for pro-growth policies and fight the failed status quo in Washington. This will stand in stark contrast to the Obama-Pelosi record of spending, borrowing and taxing that Arkansas families and small businesses know has failed.”

According to his December 2011 report, Cotton raised $541,116 for his campaign, far surpassing Beth Anne Rankin’s total of $241,143.  In addition, much of Rankin’s money is designated for the general election meaning she will not be able to spend it until after the primary.

Rankin is in the lower stage of the NRCC “Young Guns” program in their “On The Radar” level.
