Time-strategy Expert Offers Tips to Set, Achieve Goals
How different would your life be if you took seven minutes at the end of every workday to write down the five most important things you want to accomplish the next day?
Taking this time each day to consciously focus on what’s most meaningful in one’s life is key to creating a more rewarding and productive life, says Allyson Lewis, a nationally known author and speaker who lives in Jonesboro.
At the Jan. 13 meeting of the Northwest Arkansas chapter of the Network of Executive Women at the Embassy Suites in Rogers, Lewis presented ideas from her new book, “The 7-Minute Solution,” to a crowd of about 230.
Lewis said she set out to write a time-management book to help people get more done, but in the process realized the real need people have today isn’t doing more but finding more meaning in what they do.
She asked meeting attendees to list some things that are the most meaningful to them, such as family, faith, friendships and making a difference. These are a starting point, she said, for examining one’s daily activities and then setting goals and priorities that support these values.
Lewis suggests setting 90-day goals, breaking those goals into daily tasks and then recording one’s progress each day. This process helps people stay focused on what they truly want to accomplish, she said.
