New Arsagas to Offer Crepes, Wine and Beer
The new Arsaga’s Café coming to Fayetteville’s Dickson Street will be a little different from the coffeehouse chain’s other locations, owner Cary Arsaga says.
The store being readied at 548 W. Dickson St. will serve a variety of crepes in addition to its traditional coffeehouse offerings. And if the liquor license Arsaga applied for last month comes through, the new location will also serve wine and beer.
Arsaga said he and his wife, Cindy, chose to serve crepes because they’re versatile and relatively easy to make. They applied for the alcohol permit, he said, not so much because of the Dickson Street setting but because they thought people might want a glass of wine with their crepes.
The Arsagas had been trying to slow down in recent years, selling two of their five locations in 2009 to manager Andrea Allen and her husband, Jon.
Cary Arsaga had no plans to open another location, much less go into the restaurant business. Then the historic building, whose last tenant was Habibi Hookah Lounge, became available, and he couldn’t pass up the chance to restore it.
“I would not have opened up another place,” he said. “It’s just such a neat old building, from the early 1900s. I’m enjoying repairing it.”
Arsaga, who used to build homes in New Orleans, said he wants to retain the character of the building while incorporating modern amenities.
He hasn’t started the buildout yet, so it’s hard for him to say when the café might open. He’s shooting for “April, May, June — I hope no longer than that.”
